One shared folder of family history photos — Mary & Alec, the
homesteads, old portraits, and pictures tied to the people and places in this archive. It opens in
Google Drive, where the whole family can view it. This is the folder the History pages draw from.
Anyone with the link can view
this folder. To add historical photos, ask the family member who manages it for edit
access, then drop your pictures straight into the folder in Google Drive.
Your own family photos
Keep your own photos in your own Google Drive — nobody
else manages them, and they never touch anyone else's account. Make a folder for your branch of the
family, with subfolders per event or year. Here's how:
Click Sign in with Google and choose your account.
A folder called “Herman–Boser Family Photos” is created in your Drive automatically.
Type a name in the New folder box and click Create folder
(e.g. “Larry's Family”), then open it and make subfolders like “2024 Reunion”.
Open any folder and click Upload photos here to add pictures.
To let relatives see a folder, open it in Google Drive and use Drive's own
Share button.
Your uploads stay in your account — this keeps the site
free and means no one has to manage a central photo library.
Is this safe? Yes — here's exactly what happens.
The site never sees your password. Sign-in happens on Google's own page;
this site only receives a temporary permission to work with your photos.
It can only touch the family-photos folder — nothing else in your Drive.
The permission used (Google's “drive.file”) lets the site see only the
“Herman–Boser Family Photos” folder it creates and the files you open with it. It
cannot read your email, your documents, or any of your other photos or folders.
Nothing is stored on this website. Your pictures live in your own Google
Drive. The site has no server and keeps no copy of your photos.
You're in control, and can undo it anytime. Photos are private to you until
you choose to share a folder using Google Drive's own Share button. To remove this site's
access entirely, go to your Google Account → Security →
Your connections to third-party apps & services, and remove this app.
Setup needed: this page needs a Google API Client ID before sign-in works. Open
js/photos.js and set GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID. See the setup notes in that file.

How storage works: each person signs into their own Google account,
and their uploads live in their own Drive. The site never sees a password and stores
nothing on its own server. To share a folder with other family members, open it in
Google Drive and use Drive’s normal sharing.
